IN FOCUS: Things that spark joy

Tete a tete with ROOME LONDON on it's collaboration with fine artist, SYRETT who works with nail varnish and other beauty industry products

ROOME LONDON was founded by Laura and Caroline Allnatt, two sisters with a shared vision for imaginative furniture design.  After working for 20 years in the fashion and art worlds, the sisters decided to pool their experience, knowledge and passion for creativity to create the ROOME LONDON concept.

Focusing on cabinets, sideboards and dressing screens, the ROOME LONDON team of master craftsmen, based in Norfolk, create the foundations of each piece from steel and wood.  The art designs are applied by means of super fine upholstery techniques using the most sumptuous fabrics to create stunning bespoke pieces of furniture.

Why did you decide to work with Syrett?

Having worked with several designers, illustrators and artists, we are always on the lookout to develop further partnerships.  Syrett has been on our radar for some time as we are big fans of his work and especially his use of colour and pattern.  We knew that his art would look amazing on our furniture pieces.

What are the price points for this collection?

ROOME LONDON is a luxury brand and our prices reflect this.  The Furniture by SYRETT collection ranges from £3,400 for a dressing screen to £5,000 upwards for cabinets and sideboards.  Each finished piece represents the best of British craftsmanship and is made in our Norfolk studio by the most experienced artisans.  We source the highest quality natural materials and are uncompromising in our approach to excellence.

How important is sustainability to you?
We are extremely conscious of our impact on the environment, we only use FSC regulated timber, ensuring that every time a tree is felled, one is planted in its place.  We are a British brand, working between London and Norfolk, which helps to minimise our environmental footprint.  All furniture is made to order, further reducing any waste or surplus products.

What role do you think craftsmanship plays in today’s world?

We are passionate about British craftsmanship and work with the country’s most talented artisans to create high quality pieces that are as beautiful as they are functional.  We are completely devoted to recognising, supporting and nurturing British craftsmanship and believe that practical skills are part of both our heritage and our future.  Technology is fantastic and allows us to run an agile business but despite living in a digital age, we believe that humans are still hardwired for tactical connections, and that it’s crafted objects that give us the most pleasure.  This philosophy sits at the heart of ROOME LONDON.
