Textile artist Aiveen Daly launches a new body of work

TEXTILE ARTIST AIVEEN DALY LAUNCHES ‘CORALATION’

A SERIES OF OCEAN-INSPIRED SCULPTURAL ART PIECES

INFORMED BY MEDITATIVE CRAFT TECHNIQUES

Contemporary textile artist, Aiveen Daly has launched ‘Coralation’ a debut series of personal works inspired by oceanic life. The wall sculptures are delicate, intricate textile artworks created from sustainable Italian ribbon which has been painstakingly hand pleated and manipulated by the Irish-born artist, informed by meditative craft techniques to create tactile finished forms. The series which can also be commissioned is available to buy via her studio with a percentage of sales going to the Coral Reef Alliance.

Comprising over 10,000 meandering, hand sculpted curves, each work has taken over three weeks to complete by hand.  Millimetre by millimetre, strand by strand the work has been a ‘manual meditation’ for Daly absorbing her in the light-filled London studio.’Coralation’ uses hundreds of metres of sustainable ribbon which has been pleated and laid in continuous, correlating, rhythmic circles, taking the lines from vintage Japanese woodblock prints as a sculptural inspiration.

Studio Aiveen Daly is the UK’s leading textile artistry house and the only one of its kind in the world.  Known for its complex fabric manipulation techniques beloved by the world’s finest interior designers and architects. In keeping with Daly’s signature aesthetic, the new personal artwork has a quiet simplicity, sensitivity, and sophistication.

“This new, personal body of work was born from my desire to create more intimate, intricate art reflecting the quieter side of my persona. It is a departure for me as the ribbon sculpting is intuitive – whereas many of my previous commissions have been precisely measured to an exacting brief. Whilst the pieces are painstakingly detailed, the freedom to play with movement and shapes lends a unique character that is understated but dynamic with lots of light play.” Aiveen Daly.

Providing a sophisticated backdrop suited to both traditional and modern interiors the ‘Coralation’ series has already drawn attention from high profile interior designers.

Aiveen is a pioneer in the design sector, having built a reputation amongst architects and interior designers over the past 17 years. She has a loyal following and is the textile artist of choice for the finest luxury textile art, fabric manipulation, and sculptural leatherwork, all crafted in London.

Daly plans to release other pieces in this series of sculptures in the coming months leading up to World Oceans Day on 8th June 2023.  A percentage of all commissions will go to the Coral Reef Alliance which aims to conserve coral reefs internationally.  Sizes vary from 30cm diameter to 90cm diameter and prices from £1,800.
