Knots Rugs Naturals Collection for 2024 celebrates natural fibres

A celebration of rich earthy tones, natural fibres and textural design

Knots Rugs Cactus collection with fringe

Knots Rugs is to launch a capsule collection of Natural rugs for 2024 with a focus on earthy rich colour, texture, natural tone and linear pattern. Featuring five rugs made from sustainable vegan and undyed materials such as cacti leaves, undyed hemp, nettle and linen and 100% wild Matka silk, an upcycled yarn that is made from broken waste and leftover fibres.

The Natural collection is available in bespoke sizes and finishes – each one designed by its fine artist founder, Bonnie Sutton alongside the Knots in house design team. “We have always worked with natural materials but each of these rugs takes the materiality further in ways that are new and experimental – pushing technique, texture, material and production boundaries to create a range of tactile rugs using nonconventional natural fibres in rich earthy tones that will never go out of fashion.” Bonnie Sutton

The five designs in the collection are:

The Raw Earth: Part of the collaboration with artist Stefan Heyer, the Raw Earth has been skilfully hand knotted in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal in the finest Tibetan Wool, Linen and Silk.  Heyer specialises in layered, abstract paintings in mixed mediums and this piece translates oil, pastel and pencil from the canvas to a rug in deep rich earth tones from ox blood to umber.

Cactus Natural:  Cactus is made from vegan materials derived from the cactus plant. The cacti leaves are crushed and soaked until they become fibrous. These fibres are then extracted and spun by hand to create the yarn for weaving. Hand woven in Nepal with or without a natural fringe.

Chequerboard: A luxurious and soft, heavily textured chequerboard rug is made from 100% wild Match silk – an upcycled yarn made from broken waste and fibres. It is a unique yarn that has a matte appearance which shimmers slightly in the sun.  The spun threads are slightly thicker than conventional silk but soft to touch.

Mugar Tushar Kilim: Made using 100% Mugar Tushar Wild Silk which has a natural abrash effect, the Mugar Kilim is handwoven in Nepal in flatweave
