Knots Rugs has collaborated with Rediscovered By, a British studio founded by artist Charlotte Krone who specialises in historical textile techniques including flocking and foiling using flowers that are found in the English Country House Garden. Five original artworks created from flowers from the walled gardens of Keythorpe Hall – Charlotte’s muse which is close to her Leicestershire studio - have been sensitively reinterpreted by Knots Rugs and its fine artist founder, Bonnie Sutton. The delicate collection features snapdragons, lupin seeds, carnelians, sweet peas, nigella, cornflowers, delphiniums, and cosmos in chalked back shades and will launch for the first time in the UK at Decorex 6-9 October.

Bonnie and Charlotte first met at an art show in London – Bonnie was immediately drawn to the delicacy of Charlotte’s designs. It took 12 months for the collection to be created using a variety of innovative techniques in more than 38 different colours, with individual threads that are hand dyed (a process which takes 4 weeks prior to making) by artisans at Knots production in Nepal, using Tibetan Wool and Chinese Silk.
It is the latest art collaboration for Knots Rugs, which was founded over 17 years ago by Bonnie. Most recently it has worked with Nat Maks, the Margate based Suminagashi artist on a collection of rugs which will be launched at Downtown Dubai 6-9 November. As well as the ‘Naturals Collection’ working with avant garde sustainable materials such as Cactus and Nettle, Knots has also worked with the German abstract artist, Stefan Heyer, St Ives based Arthur Lanyon, American artist, Brian Coleman, George Morton-Clark and fabric designers Roos Soetekouw and Blackpop.

“I was looking to add a floral element to our existing art collections and was drawn to Charlotte’s work which has a soft, delicate sensibility. The use of colour and historical techniques Charlotte employs to achieve her work are fascinating. For this collection she has used flowers from the walled gardens of Keythorpe Hall which are hand pressed and printed in their original form with a sensitive interplay of colour – we are thrilled with the results.”
Charlotte Gaunt, Rediscovered By added, "To see my artwork translated to rugs is a dream – I have worked in many different mediums, but this has been a new direction for me. I am honoured that my original artworks have been translated by such talented artisans in natural fibres and with such flair - Bonnie has an exceptional eye and her attention to detail, quality and forensic use of colour have elevated the original works to large scale textile celebrations.”

Knots has its roots spanning three generations, starting in the 1930's with Bonnie Sutton's Grandfather, Alfred Sutton, an artist, talented carpet restorer and an expert in antique, oriental carpets and textiles. Bonnie took her Grandfather as an inspiration when creating her classic 17th Century Collection and has since grown the company from strength to strength, whilst maintaining the small, close knit family nature of the company. www.knotsrugs.co.uk; @knotsrugs
