“Over the past year, the physical and digital worlds have come together to provide a juxtaposition and tension in interiors that is much needed.” says, Betsy Smith, Graphenstone colour consultant.

“Gone are the days of painting the entire room in one colour including the ceiling and skirting. We are seeing a trend towards the unexpected with juxtaposition and playfulness playing a much needed and higher profile role in colour choices for the home and commercial interior. Some of this can be put down to Gen Z who are comfortable with colour and willing to be experimental but also want to marry that with responsibility and earthy, grounded colour. Think pops of coral and other brights against a natural, earthy tonal palette and framing views with a dark window.
Blue is also the new green partially driven by the trend and uptake in wild swimming. We are seeing effortless, watery pale hues with shiny reflective finishes that we’ve not seen for a while being paired with polished metal, stone, marble and mirror.
The ethos of respect yourself and the planet – natural materials and colours that are derived from natural dyes using eco nontoxic paint that not harmful to you or the planet - are here to stay.”
